Employers are talking the talk about mental health. But are they walking the walk? Workers aren't sure.
Many workers (73 percent) say their employers say they care about employees' mental health—but their statements aren't backed up by appropriate actions:
- 39 percent of workers think their organization only pretends to care because it's trendy.
- 41 percent of workers say an employee who talks about their mental health is gossiped about.
- 35 percent of workers say an employee who talks about their mental health is less likely to get promoted.
Employers can take
specific, results-oriented actions to support workers' mental health. Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we'll share additional findings from SHRM's Employee Mental Health in 2024 Research Series, plus
practical tips to help workplace leaders build cultures that support employees' strong mental health.
