Employers added a few more jobs than expected in November, according to the latest employment report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). A total of 199,000 new jobs were created, up from October's 150,000 but down significantly from September's revised level of 262,000.

The unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent.

Significant job gains occurred in health care (+77,000) and government (+49,000). Employment also increased in manufacturing (+28,000), as workers returned from a strike. Motion picture and sound recording industries added jobs (+17,000), mostly reflecting the resolution of labor disputes in the industry.

Employment in retail trade declined (-38,000). Overall, employment in the information industry has declined (-104,000) since reaching a peak in November 2022. Employment in transportation and warehousing changed little in November (-5,000). Employment in transportation and warehousing has declined by 61,000 since a peak in October 2022.
