Proposed Rule Issued on Part-Time Employee 401(k) Eligibility
The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act, in its effort to expand access to employer retirement plans, introduced the concept of a "long-term, part-time employee." Starting in 2024, plans will need to allow eligible long-term part-time employees to make elective deferrals to a 401(k) plan. The IRS has issued a proposed rule. Comments are due in January.
