What CHROs Wish They Knew Before Joining the C-Suite

chart 1 --enb jan 3.jpg

More knowledge of
analytics, finance
among CHRO wants

When asked what they wish they had known when starting in the CHRO role, the top response was greater depth in HR data analytics (41 percent), followed by greater depth in non-HR topics such as finance and operations (40 percent) and how to work effectively with the board (39 percent) and with others in the C-suite (22 percent).

It's lonely at the top:
CHROs crave coaching
and connection

When asked what would help them acclimate more quickly to their C-suite role, nearly three-quarters of CHROs (73 percent) identified mentoring by a seasoned HR leader, and 58 percent cited participation in a peer network. Without mentoring and peer support, CHROs can feel depleted and, as one CHRO said, "You can't pour from an empty cup."

The future calls
for a more strategic,
tech-focused CHRO

When asked how they see the CHRO/chief people officer role changing in the coming years, the top response was the need for more strategic managing in the face of greater disruptions (79 percent), followed by increased use of technology and automation (60 percent) and greater dependence on predictive analytics (54 percent).
