Uncivil behavior in the workplace is becoming common
Nearly two-thirds of U.S. workers (65 percent) say they have experienced or witnessed incivility in their workplace within the past month. Workers who rate their workplace as "uncivil" are three times more likely to be dissatisfied with their job and two times more likely to leave their job in the next year.
The election will stir the pot, especially at larger companies
More than a third (34 percent) of employees believe the upcoming 2024 election will create more incivility in their workplace. People who work for larger organizations and in the state/local government sector are more likely to believe the upcoming election will create more incivility at work.
Few organizations encourage responsible political discussions
Only 1 in 5 HR professionals (21 percent) said their organization strongly or somewhat encourages respectful and civil discussions around federal, state or local politics. In comparison, nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of organizations neither encourage nor discourage such discussions. Another 17 percent explicitly discourage political discussions.
